The Creede Miners had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They breezed by Moffat at home to the tune of 63-33. Creede has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 20 points or more this season.
Creede found their leader in underclassman Lila Fairchild, who scored 34 points along with eight steals and six rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Fairchild has scored at least a third of Creede's points. Jasmin Laing was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight assists and five rebounds.
Moffat's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Paige Hammel, who scored 16 points along with eight steals and six rebounds, and Sequoia Sirois who scored six points along with 16 rebounds. Sirois is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least nine every time she's taken the court this season.
Moffat struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Creede racked up 13 assists.
Creede has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Moffat, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-9.
Creede will head out on the road to take on the Thunderbirds at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Sangre de Cristo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Saturday. As for Moffat, they and the Panthers will face off at 5:00 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Sierra Grande focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Saturday.
