The Negaunee Miners will square off against the Kingsford Flivvers at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Negaunee comes in on four and Kingsford on five.
On Tuesday, Negaunee was able to grind out a solid win over Westwood, taking the game 8-4.
Killian Ryan looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Tristan Slater was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan DellAngelo, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Kingsford hadn't done well against Gladstone recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Flivvers walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Braves.
Garrett Brown was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Brown wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nolan Hendrickson, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Hendrickson is becoming a predictor of Kingsford's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Jack Kriegl was another, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Negaunee's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Kingsford, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Negaunee has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Kingsford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Negaunee came up short against Kingsford when the teams last played back in April, falling 5-0. Will the Miners have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
