The Carlin Railroaders will square off against the Wells Leopards at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Wells will be up against a hot Carlin squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Everything went the Railroaders' way against Smith Valley on Friday as they made off with a 16-1 win.
Joey Drown looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Carlin got a massive performance out of Theralyn Flores, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Amelya Doxey, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Carlin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Wells came tearing into Saturday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Wolves with a sharp 16-1 victory.
The team relied heavily on Andreina Mercado, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Jess Wright was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Wells' win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Carlin, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Carlin has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .644. However, it's not like Wells struggles in that department as they've averaged .592. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carlin might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Wells in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Railroaders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
