Sumner is on a nine-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Plant is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Sumner Stingrays will take on the Plant Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Sumner has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 212 points over their last five matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Sumner had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took down Durant 40-25. Sumner pushed the score to 33-10 by the end of the third, a deficit Durant cut but never quite recovered from.
It was another big night for Greg Smith III, who threw for 234 yards and five touchdowns while completing 81.3% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Malik Brown, who picked up 97 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Plant ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with a 28-21 victory over Dr. Phillips. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but Plant was the better team in the second half.
Waltez Clark was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 132 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Clark is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played.
Their wins bumped Sumner to 11-1 and Plant to 10-2.
Sumner couldn't quite finish off Plant when the teams last played back in November of 2022 and fell 37-34. Will Sumner have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
