The Corinth Holders Pirates waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They escaped with a win against South Garner by the margin of a single free throw, 49-48. That's another feather in the cap for Corinth Holders, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Leading Corinth Holders to victory were Kamea Davis and Darla Lee. Davis scored 18 points along with nine rebounds, while Lee went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 2 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lee has scored all season. Bella Stromberg was another key contributor, scoring four points along with two blocks.
South Garner's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tamia Darden, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Darden is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Taylor Moore, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.
Corinth Holders pushed their record up to 11-5 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points per game. As for South Garner, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Corinth Holders will face off against Fuquay - Varina at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Fuquay - Varina focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 last Tuesday. South Garner will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Garner at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. Garner is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
