Softball Game Preview: Carrollton Warriors vs. New Philadelphia Quakers

The Carrollton Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the New Philadelphia Quakers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Carrollton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.5 runs per game this season.

Carrollton will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Alliance on Thursday. The Warriors put the hurt on the Aviators with a sharp 14-4 win. While the Warriors didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Reagan Schneiders spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. Those 13 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Kearsten Ball was a standout: she scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Laiken Spilker also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, New Philadelphia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Madison Comprehensive. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Ellie Mason was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Easton Miller, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.

Carrollton pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for New Philadelphia, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.

Carrollton suffered a grim 14-5 defeat to New Philadelphia in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
