The Laton Mustangs struggled with assists on Friday (the Kings Christian Crusaders had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Laton was beaten by Kings Christian 65-20. Laton was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-14.
Despite the defeat, Laton saw an underclassman step up: Yann Jimenez scored seven points.
It was another big night for Ronnie Roche, who shot 4-for-7 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double on 30 points and nine rebounds for Kings Christian. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which Roche has scored at least a third of Kings Christian's points. Trey Brouwer was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 18 rebounds.
Laton's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-17. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.3 points per game. As for Kings Christian, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 27-2.
Laton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Kings Christian, they will be playing at home against Orcutt Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Kings Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matchups.
