It was a good run, but the Saint Andrew's Scots unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell to Calvary Christian Academy 49-44. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Saint Andrew's came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 188th, while Calvary Christian Academy is ranked 415th).
Despite the loss, Saint Andrew's had strong showings from Emma Smith, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and four steals, and Delaney Beighley, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ella Gottlieb, who scored two points along with six rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Calvary Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Taryn Wakefield, who scored 18 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Teagan Wakefield, who scored 15 points.
Saint Andrew's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Calvary Christian Academy, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Saint Andrew's will face off against NSU University at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Calvary Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Pine Crest at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th.
