Verrado has gone 9-1 against Desert Edge recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Vipers will head out to square off against the Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. Verrado will be looking to extend their current 14-game winning streak.
On Wednesday, Verrado got the win against Buckeye by a conclusive 18-3. The Vipers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.
Jill Ryan made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Ryan was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Dakota Chazaro was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three runs and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Faith Grabau was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5.
Verrado always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buckeye only posted an OBP of .238.
Meanwhile, Desert Edge was able to grind out a solid victory over Youngker on Wednesday, taking the game 12-7. With that win, the Scorpions brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Like Verrado, Desert Edge also got a great game from a two-way player: Aliyah Fatigoni (2027). On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Fatigoni (2027) has been consistent : she hasn't given up a single walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Desert Edge let Leila Taylor (2027) and Gwen Alvarez (2026) run wild. Taylor (2027) went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI, while Alvarez (2026) scored a run and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Azerae Cantrell (2027), who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Verrado pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Desert Edge, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-10.
Desert Edge's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Verrado has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Desert Edge, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Verrado's sizable advantage in that area, the Scorpions will need to find a way to close that gap.
Verrado took their win against Desert Edge when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 19-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vipers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
