Kevin Roque tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jordany Gonzalez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Magdiel Estevez, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Miami Springs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as iMater Charter only posted an OBP of .130.
Meanwhile, Monsignor Pace made easy work of Cardinal Gibbons on Tuesday and carried off a 14-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.
Robert Kramer was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Yuniel Paredes was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
The win was the fifth in a row for Miami Springs, bringing their record up to 22-3. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Monsignor Pace, they pushed their record up to 17-11 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Miami Springs has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Monsignor Pace struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Miami Springs couldn't quite get it done against Monsignor Pace in their previous meeting back in March of 2016 as they fell 9-5. Will the Golden Hawks have more luck at home instead of on the road?
