Benson is 8-1 against Willcox since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Benson Bobcats are on the road again and play against the Willcox Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on October 20th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Benson is ranked 165th, while Willcox is ranked 150th).
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Benson on the road against Catalina as the squad secured a 56-6 victory. The win was just what Benson needed coming off of a 40-14 defeat in their prior contest.
Benson relied on the efforts of Dalton Crockett, who threw for 215 yards and four touchdowns, and Rawley Evans, who picked up 155 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Daniel Hackett got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last game, Willcox made sure to put some points up on the board against Palo Verde on Friday. Willcox blew past Palo Verde, posting a 47-13 win on the road. The win made it back-to-back wins for Willcox.
Among those leading the charge was Ismael Cuevas, who rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. Remington Todd was another key contributor, gaining 78 total yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Palo Verde to a paltry 128 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Willcox's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out eight times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by David Allred and Oren Allsup who racked up four sacks between them.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 4-4.
Benson was taken down by Willcox 56-25 in their previous matchup back in September of 2022. Can Benson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
