Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2024 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Jordon Davison of
Mater Dei (Santa Ana) is the 2024 MaxPreps California High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot, 205-pound senior running back helped the Monarchs to a 13-0 record and Open Division state championship.
Davison ran for 1,233 yards and 19 touchdowns as a focal point for a Mater Dei team that not only won a state title but has been ranked No. 1 nationally the entire season.

In a 37-15 win over No. 21 De La Salle (Concord) in the state championship game, Davison ran 17 times for 107 yards and two touchdowns. It was the Mater Dei's eighth win of the season against a nationally-ranked team.
Davison played his best when it mattered most. He carried the ball 28 times for 196 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-24 win over No. 6 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) in the Southern Section Division 1 championship.
In four playoff games including three against MaxPreps Top 25 teams, Davison had 62 carries for 469 yards and seven touchdowns.
Mater Dei opened the season with a 42-25 win over No. 14 Centennial (Corona) and Davison led the way on offense with 122 yards and a score – one of seven 100-yard rushing games this fall.
Two weeks later in showdown between national No. 1 and No. 2, Davison piled up 90 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-15 victory over Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas).
247Sports regards Davison as the No. 10 senior running back prospect in the country and No. 154 overall. He signed with Oregon earlier this month after fielding 50 FBS and FCS offers.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.
