Cathedral has gone a perfect 5-0 against University recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Fighting Irish will be playing at home against the Trailblazers at 5:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
Cathedral had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Herron on Wednesday. The Fighting Irish never let the Achaeans get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. The Fighting Irish might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
Junior Belford looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Connor Christiansen was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Eli Sinsabaugh, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run.
Cathedral always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Herron only posted an OBP of .316.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but University ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over Lawrence North. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trailblazers have posted since May 17, 2024.
University let Beckett Suh and Griffin Wright run wild. Suh went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Wright got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs. Cooper Burnett was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.
University pushed their record up to 11-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Cathedral, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.
Cathedral was able to grind out a solid victory over University in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 7-2. Do the Fighting Irish have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trailblazers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
