Ballston Spa is 8-2 against Schenectady since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Ballston Spa Scotties will play host again and welcome the Schenectady Patriots, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
While it was all tied up 29-29 at halftime, Ballston Spa was not quite Columbia's equal in the second half on Friday. They lost to the Blue Devils at home by a decisive 63-46 margin. Ballston Spa has not had much luck with Columbia recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Sophia Lee, who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Mallory Sprissler, who scored six points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Schenectady's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight defeat. They were outmatched by Shaker at home and fell 63-34. While losing is never fun, Schenectady can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 473rd, while Shaker is ranked 48th).
Ballston Spa has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. As for Schenectady, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-16.
Ballston Spa took their win against Schenectady in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 56-31. Will Ballston Spa repeat their success, or does Schenectady have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
