Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Freedom Area). They blew past the Aliquippa Quips 29-1 on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Bulldogs with their most commanding win of the season.
Nick Fessler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Freedom Area got a massive performance out of Colton Blank, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI and three runs. Those five RBI gave Blank a new career-high. Anthony Taddeo was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs and three RBI.
Freedom Area was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Freedom Area is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Aliquippa, they are on a 27-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.
