The Freedom Patriots will take on the West Port Wolf Pack in a tournament on Friday. Freedom is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
Freedom barely beat St. Cloud the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Patriots blew past the Bulldogs 3-0 on Tuesday.
Freedom not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept St. Cloud between 15 and 17 points across their sets. The final score came out to 25-15, 25-17, 25-16.
Jan Paul Matos was the offensive standout of the game as he had eight digs and two aces. That's the most aces he has posted since back in March.
Matos wasn't the only good server: Freedom was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Cloud only served one ace.
Meanwhile, West Port entered their contest against Dunnellon on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Wolf Pack fell 3-1 to the Tigers. The Wolf Pack have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
West Port started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-13, 25-15.
Freedom will have to contain Luis Monserat as he made an impact in West Port's last game. He had 22 digs and five aces. Monserat is crushing it when it comes to digs: he's had at least 17 every time he's taken the court this season.
West Port's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Freedom, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Freedom has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.8 aces per game. However, it's not like West Port struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 12 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other volleyball content.
