Pine Grove (Pa.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 14 points, drop to eight before the final whistle blew on a 21-13 victory over
Upper Dauphin Area (Elizabethville, Pa.).
The lead that the Cardinals took on a touchdown run by
Mark Weinus with 11:00 to go in the second quarter stood up for the duration of the game, as neither team managed to score in the second half.
When the two teams played each other last season, Pine Grove came away with a 31-14 victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Upper Dauphin Area, who notched a 69-6 victory over Halifax in its previous outing. With the win PG extended its winning streak to four games.
Pine Grove (4-0) goes up against Millersburg in a Tri-Valley game matchup next week, while Upper Dauphin Area (2-2) locks horns with Tri-Valley also in a Tri-Valley game.
