The Liberty Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 50-36 to Sahuarita.
Liberty's loss came despite strong showings from Emma Koker and Makenna Johnson. Koker scored 16 points, while Johnson scored 14 points. That's the first time this season that Koker scored 15 or more points. Lainee Bosco was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Kealey Myhre was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with six rebounds and five steals for Sahuarita. The matchup was Myhre's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Karol Ortiz, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Liberty has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which is still a better percentage than their 1-9-1 record this season. As for Sahuarita, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Liberty will finish 2023 at home by hosting Vista Grande at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Vista Grande is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. Sahuarita won't have much time to rest: their next match is against St. Michael at 12:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023.
