Carroll County hasn't had much luck against Owen County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Panthers will challenge the Rebels at 6:00 p.m. Carroll County has given up an average of 6.9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Carroll County came up short against Oldham County on Friday, falling 12-6.
Bryce Furnish put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and ten unearned) runs off six hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Dustin Battiglia was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Lincoln Miller also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, while Owen County put up some runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Calvary Christian. The Rebels were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Cougars. Considering the Rebels have won four games by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Carroll County, Owen County also got a great game from a two-way player: Connor Dezarn. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Dezarn also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Owen County is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-6 otherwise. Dezarn was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Michael Smith was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Trip Allnutt was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Owen County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Carroll County's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Owen County, their record now sits at 6-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Carroll County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Owen County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Carroll County suffered a grim 12-4 defeat to Owen County in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
