The Hi-Plains Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 51-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Kit Carson. Hi-Plains has struggled against Kit Carson recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Hi-Plains lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jessica Sayles. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sayles has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Serenity Hernandez, who scored six points along with five steals.
Kit Carson's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Johnson, who scored 17 points. Lindsey Mayhan was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Hi-Plains bumped their record down to 4-5 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Kit Carson, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
Hi-Plains and Stratton will face off at 4:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Stratton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Hi-Plains in Colorado (Stratton is ranked 22nd, while Hi-Plains is ranked 147th). As for Kit Carson, they will head out on the road to take on Granada at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Granada focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 last Thursday.
