It was a good run, but the Columbus Blue Devils unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 50-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Monroe. Columbus has not had much luck with Monroe recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Columbus lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Robert Hartford, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. Hartford has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Savon Kelly, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Monroe's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but James Adams led the charge by scoring six points along with five rebounds and two steals. Justin Burns was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Columbus' loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-9. As for Monroe, they have been performing well recently as they've won 13 of their last 16 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.
Columbus will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Crisp County at 6:00 p.m. Crisp County is coming into the contest with five straight losses on the road, meaning Columbus will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. Monroe does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
