San Dimas is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They are taking a road trip to face off against the South Hills Huskies at 3:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (San Dimas 2.2, South Hills 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Last Tuesday, San Dimas was able to grind out a solid win over Bonita, taking the game 5-1. The victory continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Bearcats: they've now won three in a row.
Josh Calcanas made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Calcanas was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other pitching news, Joseph Layva looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because San Dimas is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Ashton Romero, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Hills). Everything went their way against Colony on Friday as South Hills made off with an 11-1 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Elias Reyes looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, South Hills let Diego Villarreal and Ayden Vieth run wild. Villarreal scored three runs while going 3-for-3, while Vieth scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Paxton Czubek also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
South Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win made it two in a row for South Hills and bumps their season record up to 5-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for San Dimas, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 5-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. San Dimas has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like South Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
San Dimas couldn't quite get it done against South Hills when the teams last played back in February of 2024 as they fell 9-6. Can San Dimas avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
