They came out on top in a nail-biter against Wahama on Friday and snuck past 22-20. Greenbrier West's victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Several White Falcons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sawyer Vanmatre, who rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 102 yards and a touchdown. Vanmatre has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Connor Lambert, who gained 130 total yards and a touchdown.
Greenbrier West's victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 38.57 points. As for Wahama, their loss ended a eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-1.
Greenbrier West will head out on the road to face off against James Monroe at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in West Virginia (James Monroe is ranked 30th, while Greenbrier West is ranked 21st). Wahama does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
