Vancleave (Miss.) saw its 15-point lead shrink to eight, but hung on to upset
McComb (Miss.) 15-7 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Walter Williams touchdown run in the first quarter, the Bulldogs led 13-0 at the half.
Vancleave saw its 13-point halftime lead fall to four entering the fourth.
The final outcome was shocking, as VHS was ranked No. 111 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Mississippi, far below McComb's spot at No. 54.
McComb's lone touchdown came on a 23-yard pass from
Alex Woodall to
Larkin Walker in the third quarter.
The Bulldogs came in allowing an average of 20.1 points per game this season. Vancleave held firm on the defensive front, and kept McComb well below the 32.5 points it had been averaging per game.
The win brought Vancleave's winning streak to three games.
