2A-1 Region II District 6 recap October 29, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Howe, who took down 788th ranked Commerce, 26-6.
Pottsboro extended the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region II District 6 this week by beating Van Alstyne, 23-21. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Farmersville's dynamic duo of Cole Anderson and Andrew Simmons proved to be unstoppable against Caddo Mills, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Anderson threw for 192 yards and 2 touchdowns and Simmons had 108 yards receiving. Caleb Tyford helped Farmersville's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 39 yards.
ALEX PHILLIPS was a passing and rushing force as the Panthers fell to Pottsboro. He completed 6 passes for 58 yards and also ran for 185 yards. PHILLIPS's favorite target this week was KEARON REDMON, who caught 3 passes for 35 yards.
He went 12-26 with 2 interceptions.
Sunnyvale's Ryan Cottingame and Josh Quinn led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-4 quarterback Cottingame has thrown for 2,552 yards this season, while Quinn has 56 catches for 948 yards. Erik Richards from the Foxes leads the league in rushing with 1,143 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Pottsboro takes on second place Sunnyvale.
Quinn of the Sunnyvale's is a few catches away from breaking 1,000 yards for the season. He needs only 52 receiving yards in this week's game against Matt Poe's team to get there. So far this year, he has acheived 56 catches for 948 yards.
The Bulldogs moved up to 801 from 921 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region II District 6. Howe was able to move up by defeating the Tigers 26-6.
