The Queensbury Spartans will head out to square off against the Amsterdam Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
Queensbury came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 14-1 to Saratoga Springs.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Amsterdam, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Hudson Falls on Friday as they made off with an 8-2 victory.
AJ Lopez and Christian Perez made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Lopez tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Perez struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. What's more, Lopez posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. At the plate, Lopez went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Perez got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Perez is becoming a predictor of Amsterdam's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-9 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Yojanse Rodriguez was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Amsterdam is 2-1 when Rodriguez posts two or more runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Maddix Cichy also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Amsterdam was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Amsterdam is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Queensbury, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.
Queensbury was able to grind out a solid victory over Amsterdam when the teams last played back in May of 2025, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
