The McCormick Chiefs had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.1 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Thursday. They walked away with a 58-47 victory over Calhoun Falls Charter. Given McCormick's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Blue Flashes are ranked 208th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
McCormick found their leader in underclassman Terrence Cartledge, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cartledge has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Markese Stevens, who scored eight points along with three steals.
McCormick pushed their record up to 19-2 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Calhoun Falls Charter, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McCormick won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully Silver Bluff focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Tuesday. As for Calhoun Falls Charter, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully Ware Shoals focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Tuesday.
