The Milan Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their ninth straight loss. They were dealt a 62-23 defeat at the hands of Green City. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Milan has scored all season.
Milan's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ahmet Niasse, who scored 15 points along with two blocks, and Anthony Bolden who scored five points. That's the first time this season that Niasse posted two or more blocks.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Milan struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Green City racked up 20 assists.
Leading Green City to victory were Xander Salas and Asher Buggs-Tipton. Salas scored 15 points along with five assists, while Buggs-Tipton scored 21 points along with two steals. Buggs-Tipton hasn't dropped below 15points for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Hatcher, who scored six points.
Milan's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Green City, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Milan will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on South Shelby at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. As for Green City, they will head out on the road to challenge Salisbury at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Missouri (Salisbury is ranked 64th, while Green City is ranked 42nd).
