The Castle Rock Rockets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Kalama Chinooks at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Castle Rock and six for Kalama.
Castle Rock suffered their biggest defeat since December 1, 2023 on Wednesday. They were beaten by Seton Catholic 74-45. Castle Rock has not had much luck with Seton Catholic recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Meanwhile, Kalama ended up a good deal behind Wahkiakum on Thursday and lost 65-48. While losing is never fun, Kalama can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 314th, while Wahkiakum is ranked 115th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jevan Lucente, who scored 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Henry Sigfridson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Kalama smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. This was only their seventh loss (out of eight games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Castle Rock's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Kalama, they bumped their record down to 1-10 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Castle Rock strolled past Kalama in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 by a score of 54-39. Will Castle Rock repeat their success, or does Kalama have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
