The biggest upset of the week belonged to Johnston, who took down 46th ranked Ankeny, 42-27. Mike Mahanna threw for 189 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 57 yards during the win.
Fans got a thrill when Mahanna and Andrew Heuss connected against the Hawks. The connection went for 69 yards, the longest such play in 4A Division 2 this season.
The Dragons' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Jordan Weddington chipped in 108 yards. Alec McCombs helped Johnston's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 21 yards.
He went 9-13 with 0 interception.
Mahanna put up the best numbers in passing as Johnston defeated Ankeny. Mahanna's favorite target this week was Heuss, who caught 3 passes for 154 yards.
Johnston's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Dragons feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Mahanna has thrown for 956 yards and 9 touchdowns this season, while Heuss has 30 catches for 577 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Sioux City North takes on Brian Woodley's team. As it stands, the Stars are in second, while the Dragons are in third.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Ames beat Fort Dodge 62-21. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
