The Vancleave Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Laurel at home and fell 65-15. Vancleave was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-8.
Laurel found their leader in underclassman Zy Evans, who scored 20 points along with nine steals and six assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Evans has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayllis Walker, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Vancleave has not been sharp recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season. As for Laurel, the victory was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vancleave won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Stone at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. East Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 276th, while Laurel is ranked 23rd).
