Stevenson is 6-1 against the Mariners since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Stevenson Pirates will head out on the road to take on the Marina Mariners at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Thursday, Stevenson beat the Condors 46-39. The win made it back-to-back wins for Stevenson.
Stevenson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cooper Olin, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tate Toole, who scored 15 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Marina waltzed into their match on Thursday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They skirted past Alisal 58-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Marina's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jordan Bonnard Webb, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 rebounds, and Julius Robinson, who scored 29 points. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Robinson has scored at least a third of Marina's points. Khalik Kennedy was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Stevenson's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-12. As for Marina, they pushed their record up to 17-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Stevenson might still be hurting after the 67-41 defeat they got from the Mariners in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Robinson, who scored 28 points. Now that Stevenson knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
