The Glen Rose Beavers will challenge the Baptist Prep Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Glen Rose took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Atkins, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Beavers won by a run and slipped past the Red Devils 5-4. While the Beavers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Meanwhile, Baptist Prep came tearing into Thursday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Cardinals. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Macy Childers made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Addison Highfill was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Olivia Dunn was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
Baptist Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive matches.
Baptist Prep's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Glen Rose, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Glen Rose skirted past Baptist Prep 1-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2019. Do the Beavers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
