The Elk Lake Warriors will challenge the Old Forge Blue Devils at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Elk Lake 2, Old Forge 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
While Elk Lake's victory against Holy Cross wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Warriors won by a run and slipped past the Crusaders 4-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.
The team relied heavily on Noah Gesford, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Ayotte, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Old Forge fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Riverside two weeks ago but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Blue Devils couldn't push the score so high this time.
TJ DiMattia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits.
On the hitting side, Old Forge saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Iacavazzi, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Elk Lake's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Old Forge, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.
Both Elk Lake and Old Forge just can't seem to miss. The Warriors have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Old Forge struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Elk Lake might still be hurting after the 15-8 loss they got from Old Forge in their previous meeting back in May of 2021. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
