Madison-Grant and Alexandria-Monroe are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Argylls are taking a road trip to square off against the Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Madison-Grant sitting on six straight wins and Alexandria-Monroe on eight.
Madison-Grant proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by eight) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past North Miami 11-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Argylls have posted since May 18, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Cayleigh Stitt, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Demie Havens also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Alexandria-Monroe made easy work of Wapahani on Saturday and carried off a 14-1 victory. Considering the Tigers have won six matches by more than 12 runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Alyssa Brees tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Daisy Bivens was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. Kinsley Johnson was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Alexandria-Monroe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 14 hits in three consecutive games.
Madison-Grant's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Alexandria-Monroe, their record now sits at 8-0.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Madison-Grant hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Alexandria-Monroe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Madison-Grant couldn't quite get it done against Alexandria-Monroe when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 6-2. Can the Argylls avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
