The Mahopac Indians will square off against the Suffern Mounties at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mahopac is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Mahopac took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over Walter Panas. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won six in a row.
Ellie Gerleit tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Alenah Gomes was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Shivonne Barry, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Mahopac kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Walter Panas only managed seven.
Meanwhile, Suffern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Lakeland, falling 18-1.
Suffern saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Analiese Davis, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That double marked the first that Davis has hit this season.
Mahopac now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Suffern, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
Suffern's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mahopac has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Suffern, though, as they've been averaging 14.5 hits. Given Mahopac's sizable advantage in that area, the Mounties will need to find a way to close that gap.
Mahopac got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March against Suffern by a conclusive 18-3 score. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mounties turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
