The Laurel Golden Tornadoes waltzed into their matchup Tuesday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They blew past Wayne County 52-32. Laurel might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won eight contests by 20 points or more this season.
Leading Laurel to victory were Marissa Ulmer and Kayllis Walker. Ulmer scored 15 points, while Walker dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was Walker's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Takiyah Thames, who scored five points along with six rebounds.
Laurel pushed their record up to 14-3 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. As for Wayne County, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Laurel will stay at home for another game and welcome Vancleave at 6:00 p.m. on January 11th. Vancleave is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak. As for Wayne County, they will be playing at home against Gautier at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Gautier will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 260th, while Wayne County is ranked 51st).
