Rockford is 1-9 against Watertown-Mayer since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Rockford Rockets on the road again and play against the Watertown-Mayer Royals at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Rockford will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while Watertown-Mayer is ranked 62nd).
Rockford suffered their biggest loss since December 22, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a tough 62-36 loss at the hands of Glencoe-Silver Lake. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Rockford in their matchups with Glencoe-Silver Lake: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the loss, Rockford got a solid performance out of Sienna Thomas, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Watertown-Mayer came tearing into Friday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 41.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Dassel-Cokato 63-33 at home. Watertown-Mayer has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 23 points or more this season.
Rockford bumped their record down to 6-12 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Watertown-Mayer, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-2 record this season.
Rockford was dealt a bruising 62-21 loss at the hands of Watertown-Mayer when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Rockford avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
