Softball Recap: Fulton Snaps 12-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Fulton had lost 12 games on the road dating back to last season, but after bumping their record up to 3-12 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Montabella Mustangs as they made off with a 13-2 win. That looming 13-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Pirates yet this season.

Jaci Canfield made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Fulton let Hannah Warren and Addison Smolinski run wild. Warren got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Smolinski went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Warren a new career-high. Ellie Drummond also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Fulton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

As for Montabella, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14. Surprisingly, this marked their fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

On Montabella's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ashlynn Davis, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Fulton and Montabella could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Pirates will square off against Vestaburg at 4:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (461 vs. 160). Meanwhile, Montabella (ranked 503rd) will meet Central Montcalm (ranked 242nd) at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
