The Trenton Tigers will take on the Dixie County Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Trenton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Trenton is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Lafayette just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Tigers have suffered since March 4, 2024.
Mason VunCannon made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Brock Petrello, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Dixie County had no trouble coming through when it counted. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Bell on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bears have posted since February 20, 2024.
Dixie County saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Cobb, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Those three hits gave Cobb a new career-high. Holden Beauchamp was another, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Trenton's loss dropped their record down to 18-4. As for Dixie County, their victory bumped their record up to 8-14.
Dixie County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Trenton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. It's a different story for Dixie County, though, as they've only averaged .242. Will they be able to contain Trenton's hitters?
Trenton was able to grind out a solid win over Dixie County in their previous meeting back in March, winning 7-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
