Winning is just a little bit easier when you drain six more threes than your opponent, a fact the Havelock Rams proved on Friday. They blew past Pamlico County 68-48. Given Havelock's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while Pamlico County is ranked 358th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Havelock's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chris Strong led the charge by scoring 21 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Strong has scored at least 25% of Havelock's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen Morgan, who scored 13 points.
When it comes to explaining why Pamlico County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tariq Barber. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points along with 4 steals. Barber is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season.
The win got Havelock back to even at 2-2. As for Pamlico County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.
Havelock will be playing at home against West Craven at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully West Craven focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Friday. As for Pamlico County, they will head out on the road to face off against Martin County at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
