Sunset has gone 8-2 against Aloha recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Apollos will square off against the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Sunset is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Sunset gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over Central Catholic. The high-scoring effort was just what the Apollos needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Adrianna Moreno looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jordan Pe?a was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Santana, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Sunset hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Aloha might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 15-5 to Gresham, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Gophers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Brooklyn Sweatman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Izzy Wagner also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Sunset's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Aloha, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sunset has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .459. However, it's not like Aloha struggles in that department as they've averaged .443. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
