Pensacola hasn't had much luck against Escambia recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Pensacola will head out to face off against Escambia at 6:00 p.m. Pensacola is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Pensacola came into their game two weeks ago off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 10-0 to Destin.
Meanwhile, Escambia waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Eagles 12-1. The Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by ten runs or more this season.
Madelynn Ladner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while going 3-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Escambia got a massive performance out of Gwen Verble, who scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Allie Helton, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Escambia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in five consecutive contests.
Pensacola's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Escambia, their record now sits at 7-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pensacola has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Escambia struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Pensacola might still be hurting after the 20-5 loss they got from Escambia when the teams last played back in February. Can Pensacola avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
