Newton-Conover and Bunker Hill are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2022, but likely not for long. The Red Devils will face off against the Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Newton-Conover's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Bunker Hill's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Newton-Conover is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against North Lincoln on Friday. They came up short against the Knights, falling 11-0. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Red Devils, who until this matchup were averaging 3.88 runs allowed.
Newton-Conover saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was David Robison, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Bunker Hill earned a 13-9 win over East Burke on Thursday.
Michael Camby was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Camby was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2025.
In other batting news, Bunker Hill let Kamden Bortz and Ross Fickling run wild. Bortz got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Fickling went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Fickling has become a key player for Bunker Hill: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-12 otherwise. Austin Parker also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Bunker Hill's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-12. As for Newton-Conover, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-5.
Newton-Conover got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March against Bunker Hill by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
