Not much got past Alissa Snipes, who gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks to keep Carondelet off the board. Snipes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Pleasant Valley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kodi Aisthorpe, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Pleasant Valley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carondelet struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman entered their tilt with Calaveras on Tuesday with 15 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 16. They came out on top against the Red Hawks by a score of 5-1. That's two games straight that the Cardinals have won by exactly four runs.
Callie Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Andrea Mansbery, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Izzie Kunimune was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Pleasant Valley is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 19 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-8-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Cardinal Newman, they pushed their record up to 23-6 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home.
Pleasant Valley's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Vikings have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Cardinal Newman, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Pleasant Valley continue to outrun the ball?
