Timpview is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Maple Mountain is on a seven-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Timpview Thunderbirds will take on the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Timpview posted their closest win yet this season on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 45-43 win over Springville. Given Timpview's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Springville is ranked 71st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Lina Ballin, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Timpview's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiaiaga Galea'i, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Even though Maple Mountain has not done well against Springville recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Maple Mountain slipped by Springville 47-46.
Maple Mountain's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Leah Bailey, who scored 15 points along with six assists and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Shay Brown, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Timpview has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. As for Maple Mountain, their victory bumped their record up to 12-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Timpview hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 50 points per game. However, it's not like Maple Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 53.1 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Everything came up roses for Timpview against Maple Mountain in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 72-34 victory. Will Timpview repeat their success, or does Maple Mountain have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
