Softball Recap: Crowley Gets the Win

Crowley had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 17-run drubbing they dealt Northwest on Tuesday. The Gent never let the Raiders get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. The Gent might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by ten runs or more this season.

Erika Hebert made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted over her last nine matchups.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zailey Smith, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted over her last nine contests. Shailee Trahan was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Crowley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Crowley now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Northwest, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-8.

Looking ahead, Crowley is taking a road trip to take on Elton at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.13 runs per game on average), something the Gent will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Northwest, they will square off against Iota at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Raiders surely won't give up without a fight.
