It was senior night and the last league game for the
Matadors as they faced the Las Lomas Knights at home on February 19th.
The game started off slow for both teams as they were
finding their bearings in the first half of the first quarter. The Mats were making bad decisions early and
had some sloppy play. They picked it up
in the second half of the first quarter and was leading 16-9 at the end of the
first.
The game stayed close through the second quarter as the
Knights league-leading scorer Trevan Duffy had 10 points and Chris Hatfield had
8 for the Mats. With clean and solid
play from both teams the score was 24-20 in favor of the Matadors.
It started to get exciting in the end of the third quarter
as the Knights tied the game at 30. From
here the Mats went on an 8-0 run with two three pointers from Davis Louie and
Troy Akin and the quarter ended with the Mats leading 38-32.
The Mats came out firing in the fourth quarter and started
to make every shot they took. With great
ball movement and play from the Mats they jumped out to a 51-39 lead with three
minutes left in the game. The game ended
with a score of 54-46 and the Mats ended league play on a positive note.
Notable player for the Knights was Duffy with 20 points.
