The South Lake Eagles are on the road again on Friday to play the Davenport Broncos at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully South Lake focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four on Friday.
Last Friday, South Lake came up short against The Villages Charter and fell 36-24. Despite 72 more yards than the Buffalo, the Eagles couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Although South Lake took the loss, they still got scores from Izaiah Henderson, Keydrick Powell, and Marcel Walker. The team also got some help courtesy of Tre Kelly, who threw for 309 yards and three touchdowns.
Even if they lost, South Lake's defensive line still kept up the pressure with 8.5 sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Johens Misere and Cameron George who racked up 4.5 sacks between them. Misere is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made ten or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Another thorn in The Villages Charter's side was Jesse Barker Jr., who picked up a sack, forced a fumble, and made seven total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Davenport didn't have too much trouble with East Ridge on the road on Friday as they won 24-10. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Broncos.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Davenport to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jalen Parmley, who rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown. Parmley got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run and that went for an incredible 60 yards. Another pass catcher making a difference was Carl Jean-Bart, who picked up 105 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Davenport was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 228 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
Davenport's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. It was truly a group effort as Johnathn Fields, Jayden Snow, and Menyelek Johnson picked up one apiece. Fields also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making a tackle and defending two passes in addition to snagging an interception. Brendo Coelho was another major factor on D, making ten total tackles (2.0 for loss).
South Lake now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Davenport, they pushed their record up to 3-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
