Even though the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars have not done well against the Farmville Central Jaguars recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. SouthWest Edgecombe strolled past Farmville Central with points to spare, taking the game 55-37. That result was just more of the same for these two, as SouthWest Edgecombe also won the last time the pair played back in February.
Leading SouthWest Edgecombe to victory were Moore Mackenzie and K'Deidra (KD) Collins. Mackenzie dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Collins scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The contest was Collins' sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Whitehead, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Despite the defeat, Farmville Central had strong showings from Kaydien Joyner, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Nakevia Phillips, who scored eight points along with five rebounds. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for her.
Farmville Central struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as SouthWest Edgecombe racked up 11 assists.
SouthWest Edgecombe's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points per game. As for Farmville Central, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.
SouthWest Edgecombe will head out on the road to face off against Northern Nash at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northern Nash will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 375th, while SouthWest Edgecombe is ranked 187th). Farmville Central will be home for the holidays to greet Northeastern at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Northeastern is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
